I'm so glad you are wanting to learn more about Overlanding on Maui. Here are some important details specific to the Overlander.
The Truck is not a Tesla.
No racing the Tesla owners on Maui. Just scare them by pulling up behind them. Don't drive it like its stolen, especially with all the gear strapped to the back of it. Dave bought the most heavy duty rack he could find, but nothing can withstand carelessness.
The truck is a two wheel drive (2WD) truck.
There are some areas of Maui that are four wheel drive (4WD) areas only. Do NOT attempt take Tired Dave's truck rock crawling or down steep unpaved roads that are marked for 4WD only. Gravity gets you down. Tow Truck get you up. You will have a very bad time and will have to pay for the tow.
Tired Dave's truck should stay on the road, parking lots, campsites, and pulled slightly off the road at camping areas. If you are in doubt. Ask Dave. The truck can go almost anywhere reasonable on Maui.
The Truck is a big boy on a small island.
It's an F150 with a 8ft bed. Maui has smaller parking stalls compared to North America. You will need to be careful parking. I Highly recommend backing into parking stalls. Its so much easier than pulling into them. Park slowly and its easy.
Where to camp on Maui....
There are several campgrounds on Maui are that RTT (Roof Top Tent) Friendly. Most require permits. They are inexpensive. Get them.
Also, it is legal to fish overnight. You are allowed to nap while you fish. Naps can be all night. The fishing pole is the most important piece of gear. Place the holder in the sand, toss the line and leave it in the holder. If any bugga askes you, you point to the fishing pole and politely inform them you are fishing and were just taking a nap. Seriously, that's the law.
That being said, do not attempt to fish overnight at any state or county parks/parking lots or nearby them. If you want advice on camping locations, feel free to ask Dave. He knows. Google knows too. Possibly Siri.
